Mom.....Why are they black?

I sat with my daughter, Ellah on a park bench on a cool Sunday evening, enjoying the view of nature. Then suddenly, A black woman and her little daughter sat at the far end of the bench.
I was making a call when I heard Ellah asking me "why are they black?" with curiosity in her little eyes. I was taken aback and then decided to cut the call. Then I asked her to repeat what her question was again. She said: Mom..Why are they black?
Me: Ellah, don't say that!
Ellah: But Mom, they're black.
I fell silent and stared at the black woman and her daughter and gave them an apologetic smile. I looked back at Ellah and said "Black is beautiful. They're are black , but they're beautiful!". I smiled "It's pure. You know Ellah. Darling, they're black because God created them first and he fell in love with his first baby and it's beauty. So he created many of them with a beautiful heart inside" I said to Ellah whilst turning to look at the black woman and her little daughter at the other side.
Ellah furrowed her eyes and asked again.
Ellah: Mom, so why are we white?
I stared lovingly at her and stroked her hair and thought of how my inquisitive spirit have been passed into my daughter. I looked over at the black woman and noticed she'd already become interested in the little interrogation with my daughter and I also noticed her little daughter had also moved closer to her. So I said "Well, one day God was passing through a park and he noticed the beautiful black girl sitting alone playing with the white clay. She was trying to make a doll to play with. He stopped there to watch her closely. Her beautiful little hands were full of white clay. She had almost painted herself with the white clay and he was amused to see her. So he decided, to make more people and paint them white. He loved his new creation. So he made all the shades of white and created all of us. But inside we all are black, we all are same".
I finished whilst staring deeply into her eyes with smiles. She made a thoughtful face and looked forward trying to grasp all what I explained to her. She looked over at the black woman and her little daughter's side of the bench and walked slowly to them. She bent and took the little black girl's hand in smiles. The little black girl looked over at her mother, who gave her a slight nod with a smile in return. She then looked at Ellah who said"Don't worry, it's just a paint, inside we're all black" she said in smiles and the little black girl smiled back at her....
Feeling happy knowing my daughter will grow up loving all races from all over the world with my little make over of a story, I whispered a thank you to God.
I watched as she bounced back and came to me asking if I could let her play with the black woman's daughter who I later found out her name was Emily for a while, I gave her a slight nod and they giggled at each other and ran off.
